Hockey Turf for Bassi Pathana

Sardar Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab, was the chief guest at the Sub Junior U15 Girls National Hockey Championship at Bassi Pathana which concluded this afternoon.

He reached right in time to watch the final being played between Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.

The girls vyed with each other on the grassy field that was so meticulously converted from a mere dirt-ground to well-trimmed grassy look by the team of MBCT Hockey Nursery.

"Lack of turf is our biggest concern here in Bassi Pathana," says Prof. H.S. Mejie, who is working towards creating a hockey stadium in the area so that the boys and girls from the region can be trained to qualify for national and international teams.

The vision was endorsed by Sardar Parkash Singh Badal who lauded MBCT Hockey Nursery and especially the Mejie's family for taking up cudgles to revive hockey at the grassroot level.  He said that his government would definitely provide the hockey turf for the nursery for which they should now identify the land.

A number of NRI friends of Mejie family immediately assured their full support in ensuring a turf-field for hockey in Bassi Pathana.

"We shall have the next national tournament on turf," one of them quipped.
