Bassi Pathana, September 21: Chandigarh girls lifted the Dr Thakar
Singh Ikolaha championship trophy in the finals of Sub Junior U15 Girls
National Hockey Championship held here today by defeating Himachal Pradesh 4-0.
Right from the beginning the Chandigarh girls dribbled past
the defenders of Himachal and continued their pressure and in the 26th
minute Shilpi got the success against the formidable Himachal goalkeeper by
sounding the board.
In the second half, Krishma converted a penalty corner in
the 35th minute and Saroj scored the third field goal for Chandigarh.
Shilpi again converted a penalty corner to complete the tally of 4-0.
Chandigarh team lifted the trophy and won gold medal while
Himachal team settled for second position as won the Silver.
Earlier, the Haryana girls defeated Mizoram in the morning to
win the bronze medal by 2-1.
Haryana took lead in 12th minute through a field
goal by Neha and Mizoram picked up the speed to hit the equalizer in 14th
minute through a penalty corner by Flora. The game continued to be tied 1-1
till 60th minute when Kavita of Haryana scored the winning goal.
Sardar Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab,
handed over the trophy and medals to the winning teams including Chandigarh
Gold, Himachal Silver, and Haryana Bronze.
Congratulating Prof. H.S. Mejie and Mehar Baba Charitable
Trust for hosting the event and encouraging girls to shine in the region.
Whatever the match may be, he advised, play like champions irrespective of the
result.
He announced that Punjab government shall provide a hockey
turf for Bassi Pathana very soon, which was applauded by everyone.
Many dignitaries and MLAs attended the concluding function.
