Another gian step forward for Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT), and its Hockey Nursery.
Having been called to host the first-ever National Sub Junior Under 14 Girls Hockey Championship, MBCT feels privileged to be a part of this.
There are several unique aspects of this Championship. One, that this is for the first time that any national hockey association has decided to organise an Under-14 hockey championship for the girls.
Second, it makes it very special since it is for the girls, whose number is dwindling especially in the northern region. And as per recent census, Fatehgarh Sahib is one area that suffers the most in male:female ratio. That is the reason, that MBCT has decided to a cute little face of a girl, the logo of a Rotary Club of Chandigarh's initiative of working against female foeticide, Hamari Beti, as the mascot for this tournament, which will appear in all merchandise and in-stadia publicity. This is a mascot of a smiling baby girl, who has the right to come into the world and enjoy.
Third, this U14 Championship also showcases the power of women to the residents of this region. The girls especially would feel empowered, a mission close to the MBCT's heart, for which it had been working for the past several years.
Fourth, the U14 Championship is a great boon to the young boys and girls team of MBCT Hockey Nursery which started its crusade to revive hockey in India and started training the boys and girls under 5 years, and have already flourished into good players who would definitely, get into the national hockey teams in the years to come.
It is therefore imperative that large number of contingents from each State in the country participate and send in their teams to this exciting event that will be a memorable step forward for the girls to show their mettle in the national and international hockey arenas.
